General description
The Parish Church Assumption of the Virgin Mary is one of the most beautiful late Gothic buildings in South Tyrol. During the Second World War the church was damaged, it was altered according to baroque artistic sensibilities. With the last restoration from 1991 to 1998 the old late Gothic form was brought back to life. In 1488 master Narcissus created the winged altar. The side altars are neo-Gothic superstructures.
Description to arrive at destination
At the roundabout of Völs am Schlern turn into the Dorfstraße, at the second roundabout take the third exit. Since the road ends there for vehicles and you have to continue on foot, we recommend you to find a parking place in the surrounding.
Parking
All over Völs am Schlern you can park up to 1h free, also near the church. Up to 3h you can park in the underground car park of Völs am Schlern in the Dorfstraße. Otherwise, there is a paid parking zone at the Bezugsgenossenschaft in Stegerweg 1.
Public transport
The Maria Himmelfahrt parish church is easy to reach by public transport.
By bus line 170 from Kastelruth - Seis to Völs
By bus line 176 from Seis/Tiers to Völs
By bus line 2 from Siusi/Seis to Fiè/Völs
Get off the bus at the bus stop ‘Völs Kreisverkehr / Fiè rotatoria’. From there it is a 5-minute walk to the parish church and the historic town centre
